Vision Statement
Everyone who lives in America is protected from discrimination in housing,
lending, home appraisal, insurance, and accessibility. Fair housing means you may
freely choose a place to live without regard to your race, color, religion, sex,
national origin or because you are disabled or have children in your family.
Justice in housing, like freedom, is a journey not a destination. On this
journey let us help America understand that fear and hate are baggage. That life is
too short to be angry and fearful all of the time -- we need to put that baggage
behind us. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, "We
may have come over on different ships, but we're all in the same boat now."
On this journey, let us work together to inspire fairness and open the doors
to compassion. Let us help America understand the importance of "home" for
everyone, the importance of a home free of discrimination. A home is nearly as
fragile and precious as life itself So much of our lives are devoted to simply going
home and being with those we love. Home is where we enjoy and store the little
treasures of life and the memories of our family and friends. It is said that "home is
where the heart is" and that's true.
The housing rights we protect are fragile and precious. On this journey for
justice in housing, let us continue the struggle to keep alive the delicate American
freedoms of hope and home. Many people we will help directly through all the
tools of our trade and all the compassion of our soul. For others we may only be
able to give them hope - because it is hopelessness more than pain that crushes the
human spirit.
